Things just got personal, and by things, I mean my branding.

old ADR logo

Since I decided to go freelance in June 2023, I adopted a logo I created almost by accident when I needed something to end my showreel. I quickly put together a graphic that had my initials ADR. White text on a black background with some chromatic aberration added in keeping with the overall style of the video. This has been my logo ever since but I never felt like it represented Me as a person and since ADR motion is just me I decided to change that.

Slowly over time, I started to make changes. I dropped the colour distortion, changed the black and white to a dark green and dusky pink and updated my profile picture to match. But I still wasn't happy.

I thought, "That's not a logo. It's just some text with roughened edges."

Every time I shared a link to my website with a potential client I would look at that boring thumbnail image knowing it could be better. It should be better.

With the start of the new year, I thought what better time to have a little refresh and come up with branding I was really happy with? Now I was already on the right track with the colours and the distressed vintage look. I'm a big fan of mid-century style and 50s Americana so I headed in that direction. Taking inspiration from 50's diners and auto repair garages, I set about creating something I could imagine being embroidered on some overalls or a trucker hat. I ended up with these options.

Now I don't want to say I'm indecisive but I can easily spend five minutes deliberating over what snack to choose in a Tesco meal deal. I'd set out to make myself a new logo and somehow made three that I liked. I liked the simplicity of the circle, the easy ease keyframes in the second option and the idea behind the hand clutching the lightning was taken from the old coat of arms of the town I grew up in.

At first, I thought I had to pick just one but then I thought why not incorporate all three? I settled on the middle logo as my main logo but depending on the circumstance, it can be swapped out for one of the other images. I'm happy now with these logos and the colour palette and will treat this as an ongoing project, open to the possibility of adding more logos as I move forward.
